Since 2008, Journeyman has built a reputation as trusted and experienced Video Storytelling Experts. We're based in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, and we produce content for both local and global scale clients. That means we are no stranger to passports and logistics to support the creative video production and video marketing we do for clients. We've filmed across Canada from Nova Scotia to British Columbia and in remote First Nations communities up north, as well as in Singapore, Oman, The Gambia, UK, New Orleans, and Houston USA. Creative strategy, planning, writing and research and editing/delivery happens in Halifax, while we work with video camera and sound crews in any locations where we film.

There’s a lot of choice when it comes to video production companies. Given the low cost of video equipment and the exploding demand for video content, there’s a new video shop in every basement, almost as many as the craft beer makers in Nova Scotia. That’s a good thing for everyone! 

In order to stand out, we specialize by producing video content that is human rather than corporate, genuine and authentic rather than slick or cool, and we focus on story structure based on the hero’s journey, because we know that’s an approach that connects with audiences when you have an important message to share. 

We have produced all genres of video content: live action (real people on location) and animation, short 15 or 30 second commercials for social or TV broadcast, 45 minute safety training films, 2 minute explainer animation videos, internal communications, Government relations, 5 minute videos, 8 minute videos, 22 minute documentary films, video content to sell stuff or sell ideas, and content to persuade people and change minds. More and more, we strive to give clients optimum value for their video investment by repurposing video content in re-cuts, where, for example, a 4 minute video, has 1 minute or 3 x 30 second versions, depending on the need and the content distribution platforms and audience.

We can do it all. And after 16 years of client focused creative production, we know what we’re particularly good at. That’s helping organizations use real people to tell a story. We are skilled and experienced at helping everyday people feel comfortable with the process of production, so they help share their organization’s story. We film people on location (live action video), and we also produce animation. We use the classic tools of filmmaking to transform story elements (ordinary people, facts and messaging) into watchable video content. 

We’re especially good at partnering with larger corporate or government teams since we have the track record and proven maturity to wrap our heads around complex subjects and strict brand guidelines, AND we know how to push clients out of the corporate mould and toward something that is simply more human.

We are especially drawn to work on subjects that might be misunderstood, because we like the challenge of taking people on a journey toward a new point of view, one that might be surprising. That’s very satisfying work for us, and our clients appreciate it.
